Independent Advocacy Training for Professionals and Peers.

An Advocate is someone who will support you, listen to you and can speak for you in times of need. At times people with complex needs may feel vulnerable and need support in getting their voice heard if you feel no-one is listening to what you want or how you feel about a situation.

On our day course, we will educate and empower you to give you the skills required to become an independent advocate and provide your clients or peers with the best service you can, allowing you to empower the individuals and help them breakdown the barriers they are facing ultimately allowing the potential to be reached and goals achieved.

Independent advocacy is about speaking up for an individual or group. Independent advocacy is a way to help people have a stronger voice and to have as much control as possible over their own lives. Independent Advocacy organisations are separate from organisations that provide other types of services.

Independent Advocacy puts the people who use it first , Independent Advocacy is accountable, Independent Advocacy is as free as it can be from conflicts of interest , Independent Advocacy is accessible.

Safeguarding people who are vulnerable and discriminated against or whom services find difficult to serve. Empowering people who need a stronger voice by enabling them to express their own needs and make their own decisions. Enabling people to gain access to information, explore and understand their options, and to make their views and wishes known. Speaking on behalf of people who are unable to do so for themselves

Independent advocacy is structurally, financially and psychologically separate from service providers and other services.  Such independence helps to ensure that there is no possibility of any conflict of interest arising in relation to any other services accessed by the individual or group.

DayHab

We believe that people can recover and maintain recovery in their community. Our new DAYHAB is an empowerment process a holistic approach to overcoming addictions.

Our new one-stop DAYHAB is an empowerment process a holistic approach to overcoming addictions and dissociations brought on by the addictive process that views people in their wholeness– mind, body and history. A fundamental basis of this model is flexibility and an openness breaking the blame, and shame cycle of traditional recovery models which leads to ask continually:

Who does it work for? and How can we help it work better?

It encourages us working in the field to be continually open to new information and not to become trapped in dogmatic teachings. At its core, DAYHAB is based on love, not fear; internal control, not external authoritarianism; affirmation not deflation; and trust in the ability of people to find their own healing path when given education, support, hope and choices.

DAYHAB through truth trust and consent helps people to develop ego strength which is seen as having a healthy ability to be introspective and to ask oneself the questions: What has happened to me? Who am I? What do I value, believe and want?

DAYHAB sees addiction is as a complex web of social factors, physical, pre-disposition and personal history. This empowerment model encourages individuals to develop their own internal belief system based on their perceptions and experiences. It is fluid and open to change as the person evolves. It believes that a major task of healing from addiction is to validate the underlying, positive survival goals for safety, connection, pleasure, love and power, and then to find non-addictive and positive ways to meet those needs. It is also crucial to create a healthy non-judgemental balance to prevent relapse.
