DayHab

Our new DAYHAB is an empowerment process a holistic approach to overcoming addictions.

Our new one-stop DAYHAB is an empowerment process a holistic approach to overcoming addictions and dissociations brought on by the addictive process that views people in their wholeness– mind, body and history. A fundamental basis of this model is flexibility and an openness breaking the blame, and shame cycle of traditional recovery models which leads to ask continually:

It encourages us working in the field to be continually open to new information and not to become trapped in dogmatic teachings. At its core, DAYHAB is based on love, not fear; internal control, not external authoritarianism; affirmation not deflation; and trust in the ability of people to find their own healing path when given education, support, hope and choices.

DAYHAB through truth trust and consent helps people to develop ego strength which is seen as having a healthy ability to be introspective and to ask oneself the questions: What has happened to me? Who am I? What do I value, believe and want?

DAYHAB sees addiction is as a complex web of social factors, physical, pre-disposition and personal history. This empowerment model encourages individuals to develop their own internal belief system based on their perceptions and experiences. It is fluid and open to change as the person evolves. It believes that a major task of healing from addiction is to validate the underlying, positive survival goals for safety, connection, pleasure, love and power, and then to find non-addictive and positive ways to meet those needs. It is also crucial to create a healthy non-judgemental balance to prevent relapse.

A facebook group that shares information about walks for women into the local community around Teesside, to get to know our local area, get some exercise and spend some time together. Most of the walks are accessible for people with walking aids or wheelchairs, but once a month we try and do a more challenging walk that is non accessible. This facebook group is also used to connect women with other opportunities on offer.

Online and face to face meet ups to connect over a cuppa. It is a chance to share how you are really doing and be listened to by other women that may be going through similar things. We also offer safe space, women only talking circles through collaborations with other services, meaning we can offer a wide range of opportunities for this community. Zoom links to these meetings and information about in person meet ups are shared on the Women Only Recovery facebook group.

An alternative way of approaching the 12 steps of recovery, as known from AA (Alcoholics Anonymous), but that focuses solely on the female viewpoint and experiences of recovery. This is a weekly meeting that goes through the book “A Woman’s Way Through The Twelve Steps” and the workbook, both by Stephanie S. Covington. It is a safe space meeting on zoom that allows for real connection, a chance for stories to be shared and to apply what you may learn to your lived experience. Zoom links to these sessions can be found on the Women Only Recovery facebook group.

These sessions offer a chance to heal from and reflect back on your childhood and be with your inner child, comfort her, connect with her and get to know her better. Zoom links to these sessions can be found on the Women Only Recovery facebook group.

A twenty week programme that meets for 2-3 hours a week. It goes into depth about several aspects of a woman’s life that she will need to focus and reflect on in her recovery. This is done in a group to allow for everyone to share, listen, support and learn from each other. Stephanie Covington has written the programme and all the resources for it, which can be found on Amazon or many other online bookstores. The programme will be advertised on the Women Only Recovery facebook group.

Conversations have been recorded with people in our recovery world: our clients, trustees and staff to create a platform for their stories to be heard and shared with the aims of increasing awareness and inspiring others to share their stories too. We have a Soundcloud account called ‘TRAC UK Podcast 2021’ that focuses on drug and alcohol recovery primarily, but not exclusively. Watch this space for new TRAC UK Soundcloud accounts. All the podcast episodes are shared on the Women Only Recovery facebook page.

Other things that TRAC UK has on offer include:

Women only retreats and our annual WOW (women only wellness) gathering over a weekend in June to focus on wellbeing, community and self care. The WOW Gathering will be advertised on the Women Only Recover facebook group and tickets will be sold on Eventbrite.

Our women’s only Facebook group provides a safe haven for women to get help and mutual aid 24 hours a day 7 days a week around their recovery. It was set up in 2013 and has 4.4k members. The group helps with coping strategies, helps women feel more empowered and gives them a sense of community – a place to relay their personal experiences and one that provides understanding. This closed group means only members can see posts; it allows women to open up on issues that would otherwise be taboo in mixed meetings.
